Huh?
Katie Couric's debut on the CBS Evening News has been discussed for months. As the first woman in the position, many people were curious as to what she would bring to the newscast.
So, what did she choose to talk about? BABY SURI CRUISE!!!!!
Does she need to be reminded she isn't on a morning news/talk show anymore?
Way to get people to take you seriously Katie!

I missed the telecast, but ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! Then again, how often has Brian Williams (NBC) covered this "story" or others like it? With some frequency, I would wager. So, I wonder if Couric is doing just what the other networks are doing, but we judge her more harshly because of her "soft news" background. . . .
I'm not sure if it's a matter of judging her more harshly. Rather, it has been suggested that soft news is included in broadcasts to generate audiences. I can accept that because people do need to make a living and the news is a business.
However, Katie Couric's first broadcast was going to generate a large audience regardless of what she spoke about since it was so built up and people are so curious about her.
Therefore, CBS would have kept the same ratings by only covering substantial and important news, deleting the need for this type of story.
